Mention prompts

Question design for visibility

Mention prompts are the questions CLEA tracks to measure AI visibility. They should look like questions buyers might ask before choosing a tool, service, product, or source.

Good prompt design makes the results easier to trust. Weak prompt design creates noisy analytics.

Brand and competitor mentions

The first outcome is simple: did your brand appear?

The second outcome is often more useful: who appeared instead, and why? Competitor mentions show which companies AI systems currently recommend for the same question.

Market and intent variants

Variants help when the same category behaves differently across markets or buyer intent.

Use variants carefully. A market version should change the answer in a useful way. If it does not, the prompt set may become too large.

Model coverage

Different answer engines can produce different results. CLEA can help compare those differences when the workspace has enough runs.

Do not overreact to one model result. Look for patterns across prompts and time.

Evidence to inspect

Inspect the full answer, mentioned brands, competitors, sources, and answer framing.

The metric tells you where to look. The evidence tells you what to do.

1

Ask a buyer question

Track a prompt someone might really ask.

2

Capture the answer

Save mentions, competitors, sources, and wording.

3

Inspect the evidence

Read the full answer before acting.

4

Tune carefully

Edit weak prompts instead of adding noise.

Tuning weak prompts

Tune prompts when answers are too vague, too generic, too repetitive, or not useful for a buyer decision.

Start by changing the wording. Do not add five new prompts to solve one unclear question.

Connection to share of voice

Share of voice depends on the prompt set. If the tracked questions do not match real buyer questions, share of voice will be harder to trust.

Review prompt quality before sharing share of voice with the team.
